What Is an eSIM?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM built into modern phones, tablets, and smart watches. Instead of inserting a plastic card, you activate a data plan by scanning a QR code or tapping a universal link.

Most phones released since 2018 (iPhone XS and later, flagship Android devices, Apple Watch, iPad, and many other eSIM‑capable devices) support eSIM alongside your existing SIM.

Browsing Plans

  1. Open Drop and tap eSIM in the navigation
  2. Browse available data plans or use the filters:
    • Location – country, region, or worldwide
    • Data – 500MB, 1GB, 5GB, unlimited, and more
    • Period – number of days the plan is valid for
  3. Recently purchased plans show up at the top for quick access

Regional bundles cover groups of countries (Europe, Asia, Latin America, etc.) and are ideal for multi‑country trips. Worldwide plans work almost anywhere.

Purchasing

  1. Tap a plan to open the purchase confirmation
  2. Pick the chain and token you want to pay with (USDC or USDT)
  3. Tap Purchase and approve with your passkey

Drop converts your token payment to the plan's retail price, provisions the eSIM, and returns an activation profile—all in one step.

Activation

After purchase you'll see an activation screen with:

  • A QR code to scan with your phone's camera
  • A universal link (Apple devices) to install the profile with one tap
  • Manual setup details (SM‑DP+ address, activation code, and optional confirmation code) if your device needs them

On iOS: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code (or follow the universal link).

On Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM, then scan or enter details.

Once installed, enable the Drop data line and you're online.

Managing Your eSIM

  • Your currently active eSIM appears at the top of the eSIM screen with remaining data, validity, and country coverage
  • Tap it to view the activation profile again (useful if you need to reinstall on a new device)
  • Purchase an extension or top‑up plan for the same region to keep the line running

Privacy

Drop eSIM is designed to preserve the same privacy guarantees as the rest of the wallet:

  • No identity checks – no KYC, no ID upload, no personal details
  • No phone number required – the eSIM only provides data, not a phone line
  • On‑chain payment – paid with crypto, no card or bank account
  • Hashed identifiers – Drop does not link eSIM purchases to your social handles

Troubleshooting

  • QR code won't scan – use the manual SM‑DP+ and activation code fields on the confirmation screen
  • eSIM installed but no data – make sure the Drop line is enabled for Cellular Data and that Data Roaming is on
  • Out of data – buy a new plan or an extension pack from the eSIM page; the new plan activates immediately
  • Device compatibility – check your phone manufacturer's support page to confirm eSIM support
