Passkeys
Passkeys are the secure, passwordless technology that protects your Drop wallet.
What Are Passkeys?
Passkeys are a modern replacement for passwords. They use public-key cryptography and are protected by your device's biometrics (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint) or PIN.
Benefits over passwords:
- Phishing-resistant: Can't be stolen by fake websites
- No memorization: Your device handles authentication
- Biometric protection: Secured by Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint
- Synced: Available across your devices automatically
How drop Uses Passkeys
When you create a Drop wallet:
- A passkey is generated on your device
- Your private keys are derived from and protected by this passkey
- Only your biometrics can unlock the passkey
- Drop never sees or stores your passkey
This gives you self-custody security with consumer-grade simplicity.
Managing Passkeys by Platform
Where to find your Drop passkey
Your passkey is saved under account.moneyos.network (Drop's authentication domain), not dropwallet.app. Look for account.moneyos.network in your device's passwords or keychain.
iOS & macOS (Apple)
Passkeys are managed through iCloud Keychain.
To view your passkeys:
- Open Settings (or System Settings on Mac)
- Tap Passwords
- Find and tap account.moneyos.network
- View passkey details
To enable sync across Apple devices:
- Go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud
- Tap Passwords and Keychain
- Toggle On
Passkeys sync automatically across iPhone, iPad, and Mac with the same Apple ID.
Android
Passkeys are managed through Google Password Manager.
To view your passkeys:
- Open Settings → Google
- Tap Manage your Google Account
- Go to Security → Password Manager
- Find account.moneyos.network
To enable sync:
- Passkeys sync automatically when signed into your Google account
- Ensure Google Password Manager is set as your default
Windows
On Windows 10/11, passkeys are stored in Windows Hello.
To view your passkeys:
- Open Settings → Accounts
- Go to Sign-in options
- Look under Passkeys or Security key
TIP
For cross-platform sync on Windows, use a password manager that supports passkeys (see below).
Linux
Linux passkey support varies by distribution. For best results, use a third-party password manager with passkey support.
Password Managers with Passkey Support
For cross-platform passkey sync, use a password manager:
| Manager | Platforms | Passkey Support |
|---|---|---|
| 1Password | All | ✅ Full support |
| Bitwarden | All | ✅ Full support |
| Dashlane | All | ✅ Full support |
| NordPass | All | ✅ Full support |
| LastPass | All | ✅ Full support |
Using a password manager lets you access your Drop wallet from any device, regardless of ecosystem.
Setting Up a Password Manager for Passkeys
- Install your chosen password manager on all devices
- When creating or adding a passkey in Drop, select your password manager as the storage location
- The passkey syncs automatically to all your devices
Transferring to a New Device
Same Ecosystem
Apple → Apple or Android → Android:
- Sign into your cloud account (Apple ID / Google)
- Passkeys sync automatically
- Open Drop and authenticate
Cross-Platform
Apple ↔ Android or other combinations:
Option 1: Password Manager
- Use a password manager that supports passkeys on both platforms
- Passkey is available everywhere
Option 2: Add New Device
- Open Drop on your new device
- Choose Sign in
- Select Use another device
- Scan the QR code with your old device
- Approve on your old device
- A new passkey is created on the new device
Troubleshooting
Passkey not working
- Check biometrics: Ensure Face ID/Touch ID/fingerprint is set up
- Check sync: Verify cloud sync is enabled (iCloud Keychain / Google Password Manager)
- Re-register biometric: Remove and re-add your fingerprint or face
- Restart device: Sometimes a restart helps
Lost access to passkey
If you've lost all devices with your passkey:
- Check if passkey synced to cloud (sign into iCloud.com or Google Password Manager)
- Check any password managers you use
- Check backups
Passkey not syncing
Apple:
- Verify iCloud Keychain is enabled
- Check internet connection
- Sign out and back into iCloud
Android:
- Verify Google Password Manager sync is on
- Check internet connection
- Go to Google settings and force sync
Security Best Practices
- Enable cloud sync: Prevents lockout if you lose your device
- Use strong device PIN: Backup for biometrics
- Keep devices updated: Latest security patches
- Consider a password manager: For cross-platform reliability
- Don't share your device passcode: It can bypass biometrics
